Hey Fam! Welcome to my first blog post! [cue applause]

So since we were in lockdown all of 2020, everyone is itching to travel this year. To help prepare you for what will hopefully be an exciting travel season, here are my top 3 travel myths busted!

  1. I Need A Passport to Travel

In country and even in state travel is travel too. If you spend your weekends taking day trips to a new city in your state, that’s travel. If you drive to visit a new state park every month, you’re traveling. If you save all year to take the family to Disney, that’s travel too. Travel isn’t limited to places outside of the U.S. (or wherever your home country is). Don’t get it twisted! Travel is what you make it. Redefine what it means to you.

A beach in Hawaii. This view did not require a passport.

2. I Can’t Afford to Travel

Now that you’ve redefined travel, the next myth you need to bust is that you can’t afford to travel. Of course, not everyone can travel. For those with discretionary income, the best way to determine whether you can afford to travel is to check in with your budget. Yup, I said the B word. If you’re of age and working full time, you really should have a budget. How much money do you have left over after paying your bills and what are you spending it on? My definition of bills here is mortgage/rent, car payment and car insurance, food, etc. If you’re buying lattes from Starbucks every day, saving that for a month gives you enough money to put gas in your car and take a daytrip to a nearby city. The $200 a month you drop on a weave or a fancy haircut is about the cost of a flight from New York to Florida. You can afford to travel if you change your spending habits. A few tweaks here and there could lead to your next trip.

3. I Don’t Have Anyone to Travel With

This is my favorite myth to bust because I literally do it ALL. THE. TIME. My family and friends already know, I’m going with or without them! I know it’s daunting to arrive in a new place where you don’t know anyone. But that’s why my favorite way to travel solo is to do it on a group trip. Group trips offer the safety of traveling with people while giving you the freedom to leave the group and explore on your own (You don’t know anyone so there’s no obligation to hang out with them. Love it!). It’s the best of both worlds. Keep in mind that most tour operators charge a single supplement fee but don’t let that stop you.

The group I traveled to Italy with. I didn’t know anyone on this trip!

That’s it. The top 3 travels myths, BUSTED!

Hope this helped you in some way.

Peace!
