Solo and Family Fun at Massanutten Resort
It’s fall y’all! And that means time to get out and enjoy some outdoor fall activities. If you’re looking for a place to visit to enjoy all that fall has to offer, I highly recommend Massanutten Resorts.
Massanutten Resort is a four season resort located in Virginia in the Shenandoah Valley. The resort offers an indoor water park, Adventure Park, golf courses and day spa. I typically visit Massanutten around Labor Day. Last year, I went solo and this year, I visited with my sister and her family.
Lodging
In the interest of full disclosure, I do not own a timeshare at Massanutten. But I have a few family members that are owners and I stayed as their guest during both trips. I won’t go into whether or not you should get a timeshare here. But you don’t have to be an owner or know an owner to enjoy a vacation here. Massanutten has lodging options, ranging from hotel rooms to condos and they offer several packages throughout the year. During both trips, I stayed in one of the recently renovated suites. Each had a seating area, dining area, kitchen, bathroom with a shower and a jacuzzi tub in the bedroom.
Food
One of my favorite parts of traveling is the food and Massanutten did not disappoint. We loved everything we ate at the Virginia BBQ & Pizza Co. and loved the view of the mountains while dining at Base Camp. All of the onsite restaurants have curbside, dine in and take out options available. If you’re traveling with picky eaters, there are several fast food restaurants nearby.
Activities
There is no shortage of activities to enjoy whether you’re traveling solo or with your family. During my solo trip, I did two of the guided hikes offered by the resort. On one of the hikes, we took the ski lift to the top of the mountain and took a short hike to the peak. It was cloudy that day but the view was still spectacular. I also went horseback riding which was a first for me. I was able to get an appointment after I arrived but it’s a very popular activity and they recommend that you schedule as far in advance as possible.
Massanutten has so many activities for families. The kids loved the water park and playing miniature golf. We also visited the Family Adventure Park where I ziplined, tubed down the mountain and tried my hand at rock wall climbing for the first time. The park has a kids adventure course where the two older kids enjoyed their own zip line, ropes course and more. If you have younger kids, there is a bouncy house to keep them entertained while the rest of your family enjoys the park. These are just the activities that we participated in. The resort also offers mountain biking, golf, arts and craft classes, basketball camp and so much more. Since Massanutten is a four seasons resort, they offer different activities during different seasons. Check their website for the schedule.
If you’re looking for something to do offsite, the White Oak Lavender Farm is about twenty five minutes away from the resort. Alas, the season for blooms had passed when I visited so I couldn’t smell the lavender but there were plenty of things to do there. For a small fee, I checked out their discovery area and visited the gardens, labyrinth, duck pond and checkerboard. There is also an audio guided tour and a wine bar. I spent about an hour here, relaxing in the duck pond and spending way too much money in their shop. The shop smelled amazing! It had lots of different products, including oils, aromatherapy products, teas and lavender ice cream. Don’t leave without trying the lavender ice cream!
Whether traveling solo or in a group, there is literally something for everyone at Massanutten Resort. Be sure to add this gem to your list of must visit places.
