Spring is finally here and after a looong quarantine, you are more determined than ever to get out there and see the world. The only problem? You have no idea where to find trips. And if you’re not used to traveling, it’s hard to know where to even start. Don’t worry, I got you. Below are my five standbys when searching for trips.

  1. Your village – My first big trip after college was a cruise organized by someone at church. A few years later, one of my bestie’s aunts planned a family trip to Hawaii and invited me to come. My point is don’t overlook the family travel agent. Most people know someone within their village who’s always planning trips. Reach out to them to get their recommendations. Since they’re family (or close to it), they are more likely to look out for you.
  2. The internet – There are tons of travel groups and travel curators online for every travel taste and style. You can have an amazing travel experience with a small company found online. I traveled to Barbados and Saint Lucia with small, black women owned tour companies I found online and had a great time.

3. Colleges and Universities – Don’t sleep on the study abroad and travel studies programs at colleges and universities when considering your next trip. These are usually some of the best trips for the best value. I’ve done everything from Broadway plays to a 10 day tour of Rome and the Amalfi Coast with my local community college.

4. Motorcoach companies – Whether you’re trying to avoid airports or just looking for a slower, less stressful way to travel, consider traveling by coach. Most motorcoach companies offer day trips and trips abroad. I’ve taken dozens of trips with motorcoach companies over the years, including a two week tour of Eastern Canada. Check to see if you have a motorcoach company in your state.

Toronto was one of the many cities we visited during the tour of Eastern Canada with Gunther Tours.

5. Senior Centers – I know this seems like an unlikely place to find a trip but hear me out. Many senior centers offer trips that are open to the general public. Just call ahead to confirm, convince a few girlfriends to go and BOOM! Potential trip of a lifetime!

Rona is not gone yet so please travel responsibly! Research the COVID infection numbers in the area you plan to visit and determine whether it’s safe for you to travel now.

And, there you have it. My top 5 places to find trips. I hope this helps you to go somewhere too!
